Issue 8: So the Story Goes…

From mythology to old wives’ tales to folklore, humankind has always used storytelling to explain the world around us. Stories can bring meaning to the unexplainable, set culture norms, or spread a tale far and wide. The stories we tell about our world can entertain or caution, inform or terrify. In this issue, we explore the mutable and the magical elements of storytelling.
The Annual Fundraiser is live!
The BWWG has always prided itself on remaining free to our members in every way: it is a core value of our group that members are able to join meetups, access community, and develop their writing in a setting that does not add financial pressure to their lives.
We are a volunteer-run group organized by individuals who see this as a labor of love, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. However, a few components of running our group have been adding up lately: since regular sessions now occur on Zoom, we need an account from which to host them that can accommodate our members within the time frame we need. We also expanded to add a literary journal to feature our members’ writing, and that costs a small sum to host.
We find ourselves in a place where we want to ask our gracious community who are in a financial position to do so, to contribute whatever amount they feel comfortable with so that we can cover costs for the following:
- $203.88 annually for a designated BWWG Zoom account to keep our regular virtual sessions without interruption.
- $118.66 annually for the Meetup.com organizer account
- $66 annually for the Wild Garlic website domain + WordPress account
This comes to a total of $ that we would like to offset for the next year. If we raise more than that, we will either set the funds aside for the following calendar year, or determine a plan for an event or way to spend the funds so that group members will benefit.
