The Brooklyn Women’s Writing Group (BWWG) is a space for members to work on their own projects in a focused, supportive environment, in the company of other writers. Our members’ projects include novels, poetry, cookbooks, memoirs, plays, academic writing, and just about anything else. The group began in 2017 as an in-person Meetup that gathered every Sunday for drop-in writing sessions at the historic central branch of the Brooklyn Library at Grand Army Plaza. Since the Covid-19 lockdowns in March 2020 in New York, the group meets virtually twice per week for sessions in that same spirit. Members are no longer constrained by geography, though most of our members live in New York. The BWWG has always been and will always be welcoming, inclusive and absolutely free.

The Brooklyn Women’s Writing Group uses an inclusive definition of the term “women”; we offer space and value the creative energy of all female-identified people–trans, cis, genderqueer, and gender-nonconforming–as well as non-binary people who feel aligned with myriad women’s experiences, especially in the context of writing and creative practices.

March Fundraiser!

BWWG is an entirely volunteer-run group, and our hosts do what we do out of love for the project and the community. We will always keep the group free to our members and will not collect membership fees–this is a fundamental principle of the group!

Because there are costs associated with running and hosting the group, however, we are trying to raise some funds just to offset the costs for the services and platforms that keep BWWG & Wild Garlic going for the next financial cycle. If you have the means and are so inclined, please consider donating so that we can continue to offer the same programs, events, and opportunities to our wonderful members!
