Sky’s Finest Mantle

Kelly Trost

Wherefore go sky’s finest mantles?
Wherefore goes the sun?
When did best of Eden’s bounty
take to heart an urge to run?

What became of crystal rivers,
roving into last clear night?
Mighty as a whirling vortex,
threat of nature’s ponderous might.

Why do tears for Earth fall heavy,
carried home through mist-strewn air?
Might return past kind horizon,
offering her timeless care?
