Submission Guidelines

Wild Garlic publishes on a quarterly schedule, with issues organized around a theme or question. Our reading period is currently closed, but please check back soon for updates. Currently, Wild Garlic accept submissions from members of the Brooklyn Women’s Writing Group–check out our page on Meetup.com if you are interested in joining.

We publish two sections: Features and Responses. All submissions are read blind by our team, and lightly edited for clarity.

Features
These are longer pieces of writing in any genre which have some relationship to the issue’s theme. Word count limit is capped at 5,000 words. Wild Garlic accepts simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your submission is accepted elsewhere so we may withdraw it. We accept submissions with visual components (painting, drawing, comics) as well. We prefer writing submissions to be sent in MS Word or Google Docs, and visual submissions as PDFs or high-resolution JPGS.

Responses
These are shorter pieces of writing, often completed during a session of the Brooklyn Women’s Writing Group as a free write, which respond to the theme or an open-ended question in the spirit of the issue’s theme. Responses are capped at 500 words and can be in any genre, and may have a more rough or thoughts-in-process quality.
